Demo-Rod Racing - The Results:

April 12, 2007

We sent 4 cars into action in this event, we had Frankie Fox running a Toyota Corolla (#13), Rodney Mattis returned with his Chevy Cavalier (#26), Dustin Simmons brought #85 out of retirement with his Cutlas Ciera and the Rookie, Zach Mills, ran #98 on his Hyundai Sonata. We were also represented by a special guest Pit Crew addition - Jesse Drury, who originally was going to run the Toyota but stepped aside for Frankie - AND because he was only 3 weeks away from his wedding day. Thanks for helping Jesse, it was a hand well needed! As for the races?! We sent 2 cars into Heat  #2 (Frankie and Rodney) and 2 cars into heat #3 (Zach and....OK, Dustin didn't make it!). In Heat #2, Rodney and Frankie both did pretty good and were making laps against some veteran drivers. Rodney ended up finishing 3rd (which qualified for the Feature) and Frankie lost 2 front tires and 1 rear tire and his car was slowed drastically, which put him too many laps back to qualify. In Heat #3, Zach took his maiden voyage all by himself. He attacked the track with vigor but the car didn't cooperate, he made a few laps and then the car died (found out later a battery terminal came loose!). We worked on the #13 and #98, and Dustin got his #85 finished and we put 3 cars into the Consi race. Frankie and Dustin lined up side-by-side. On the green Dustin turned his wheel into the car beside him to give Frankie more room as they came down the hill. Frankie and about 4 others were able to get into the pit but Dustin was spun sideways blocking about 6 or so cars from getting on the track. Frankie stormed through and made a few laps before all of the other cars got going. Zach was doing a pretty good job and Dustin came out flying after he got out of the mess he was in. Dustin was running strong but ended up loosing both front tires slowing his progress. Something broke in Zach's frontend leaving his sitting just before turn 1. Frankie kept making laps and passing everyone, on his way to an easy win in the Consi, which qualified him for the feature. In the Feature Frankie and Rodney both came out flying. There were some fast cars in this race and some good veteran drivers, Demo-Rod hung tough but there was no giving up laps in this race. Both of our cars took their lumps and finished but unfortunitely not at the top. Rodney finished just out of the $$$ with 24 laps complete and Frankie was given 18 laps. Overall it was a good night for the boys, but - we aren't satisfied until we win it!!! Look out Arcadia!!!

May 12, 2007

The May race was like the Famine after the feast. We went from 4 cars in the first race to just one in this race. DemoRod Racing was represented by Dustin Simmons running the #85 on the Saturn. Dustin Did a decent job making laps in the Heat but coming out of turn 4 someone pushed him into the wall so hard that the front bumper popped up on top of the Jersey Barrier and that was it. The car ran strong and Dustin pushed it, even going up and over one of the huge tires that are used to make the corner turns. The car seemed to be in good shape up on the barrier, but after the Bobcat picked the front end up and dropped it down on the track we found that we had a broken spindle. I believe that it was broken between the rough pickup from wall and the drop to the ground. We took it up on the hill and Mr. Tommy (Redneck Rocket's Dad) welded it back together and had us in a position to run the Consi (Mr Tommy said we could run it but he wouldn't promise anything - maybe a lap or 2). Dustin lined up for the consi, but then thought better of it and decided to save this car for next month. So for the June race DemoRod Racing will have at least 1 car. I know Rodney has Frankie's Prism that died before last month's race so that one may be out there. Jesse is planning on a return and possibly Zach. Be ready, there may be an alliance forming with another team @ Arcadia, I'll keep everyone posted!

June 9, 2007

Well, the race schedule moves on. This month DemoRod Racing was once again represented by one driver. Dustin had the #85 on a Corsica this time. The heat was not too nice to Dustin as he was matched up against a lot of the more experienced drivers. He was running against the likes of Tom Delamater and Amos Albright, to name a few and the track was fast. Dustin didn't do too badfor the first couple of laps, but then he bounced through a big divit from one of the skidloaders and lost the connection to his battery. We hooked the battery back up and waited for the Consi. The Consi featured roughly 21-22 cars. Dustin lined up and this could have been ugly! But, Dustin came down the hill and into the pit. The only thing that hemmed him up early was BoPeep got sideways in front of him and he had to push his way through. On about lap 2 it seemed like the racing game all slowed down for Dustin as he was able to see the holes. He was no longer banging his way - he was driving - seeing the holes and getting through them. He was making laps, getting around issues and overall racing the way I was waiting to see. He even tried to help Tommy Delamater get off a tire and was spun around. He didn't do anything dumb, he just threw it in reverse and kept getting it. Once he got turned around he was back to the races. At that point I didn't care where he placed - because he had just ran the best race of his career.  He graduated!!! He has got it! So look out Arcadia, Dustin isn't just a jammer now - he is a driver! Now, if I can only get a couple more cars up to represent DemoRod Racing!!!

July 14

DemoRod Racing was represented by Dustin Simmons all by himself. Not even Uncle Tom there to kick a fender! I had family issues and for the first time this season I missed a race. Dustin thought he was going to miss this one because of not having a tow, but luckily TJ was able to get his act together and he took #85 up. Dustin said that the car was running like crap when he got up there and he got Tommy and Mr Tom (RedNeck Racing) to take a look at it but there was nothing happening with it. He ran it and things didn't go to well. He said he made a few laps and it died, then he got nailed really hard and bent the rear end to hell and back. I don't have any pictures as of yet, but I have reports from Tommy Delamater(the RedNeck Rocket) and  Chris Tinker (Bull Dog Racing) that the car was toast. Chris said it was pretty much bent behind the driver's seat. Dustin is feeling the effects from the hit still, he thinks he has a fractured rib (from the seat belt) and his neck is sore from the jolt and hitting his head on the steering wheel. His night was done, they couldn't even get it out for the Consi it had soo much damage. But our lone trooper made an effort. Thanks Dustin for the representation. I can almost promise that Uncle Tom WILL be there in Agust. Everyone plan on the August race, Dustin will be running in Roundy-Round and Fire/Police Derby (against former police chief - Ed Norris).

August 11th

August's race did have Dustin riding in the 3rd place car - problem was, it was someone else's car! Dustin didn't have a car (at least not at the track!) so he rode "shot-gun" with Chris Tinker of "BullDog Racing".

Sept 29th

Well, DemoRod ended the 2007 season the same way it started - 2 cars in the Feature! The only thing, they were both flying other flags. And it wasn't Rodney and Frankie. IT WAS Rodney and - Dustin! Dustin Simmons ran the #85 as a BullDog and Rodney Mattis ran #26 with RedNeck Racing. Rodney took a little Honda Civic Hatchback into the 3rd Heat and ran it strong enough to finish 3rd (qualifing for the Feature) and Dustin surprised the crowd by running to a 2nd place finish and gaining his first Feature Race. Both of the boys ran great races in their Heats and picked up right where they left off when they came down the hill for the Feature. Both were doing a very good job until there was a puff of smoke that rolled out from the Civic, Rodney made about one more lap and the motor was completely gone. Dustin kept making laps and when all was said and done - Dustin pulled off 2nd place in the Feature. Congratulations to both of "our" drivers. Kudos to Dustin - you made #85 proud!!!
